Marcel Durka is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien (HMTM) Hannover under the tutelage of Prof. Marina Sandel and is currently being supported by the Cusanuswerk scholarship.

Marcel has already gained operatic experience in major roles, performs in song recitals and oratorios, and has received numerous awards and scholarships. Masterclasses with Prof. KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Prof. Christoph Prégardien, Angela Denoke, and participation in Prof. Jan Philip Schulze’s Lied class support his artistic growth.

In 2022, he won 1st Prize (Opera Hopes) at the 56th International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition, became a Live Music Now scholar, and earned top prizes at the Carl Schroeder Competition. Earlier milestones include awards at Beethoven Bonnensis and WESPE 2020 for his interpretation of Vaughan-Williams’s Songs of Travel.

Recently, Marcel reached the final of the 8th International Otto Edelmann Competition in Vienna, excelling as Conte in Le Nozze di Figaro in the final concert with orchestra. In August, he performed orchestral arias with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie under Marcus Bosch at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. Earlier this year, he debuted as Nardo in Mozart’s *La Finta Giardiniera* and as Frank in Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, both university productions.

In 2025, he will perform the role of “Wirt” in Humperdinck’s Königskinder at HMTM Hannover, followed by participating in the Young Singers Project 2025 at the Salzburger Festpiele.
