The Birth of Song – Sacred and Secular Devotion

Journey into the intimate world of early song where the human voice and lute combine to explore love, longing, faith and devotion.

Join leading performers of early music and regular collaborators, tenor Nicholas Mulroy and lutenist Elizabeth Kenny, in the historic surroundings of Holy Trinity, Boar Lane for a programme which moves between the sacred and secular worlds of seventeenth-century Europe. This crafted selection of works traces the birth of a new musical language from Renaissance song to the expressive heights of the Baroque through which the audience will experience exquisite poetry, divine lyricism, intimate storytelling and profound musical spirituality.
