Dame Felicity Lott
Leeds Song is deeply saddened by the death of our Patron, Dame Felicity Lott — one of the outstanding singers of her generation and a towering presence in the world of song.

Dame Felicity’s association with Leeds Song over many years brought enormous pleasure and inspiration to audiences, artists and students alike. We were deeply honoured when she became Patron of the organisation in 2015, and her generosity of spirit, wit and musicianship remained a constant source of encouragement thereafter.
Internationally admired for the elegance, intelligence and humanity of her artistry, Dame Felicity enjoyed a career of exceptional breadth and distinction, particularly celebrated for her performances of French, English and German repertoire. She was one of the great champions of song recital, setting standards of communication, textual insight and stylistic refinement that influenced singers and audiences across generations.
Her appearances for Leeds Song as a recitalist were always memorable occasions: performances marked not only by technical mastery and interpretative insight, but by a rare ability to communicate directly and sincerely with audiences. She brought warmth, curiosity and emotional honesty to the platform, alongside a wonderfully natural sense of humour.
In more recent years, she gave her time and experience to younger singers and pianists through masterclasses that were as perceptive as they were generous. Students will remember her not simply for the acuity of her musical advice, but for the kindness, wit and encouragement with which it was offered. She had the gift of making demanding artistry feel both rigorous and deeply human.
Dame Felicity’s support for Leeds Song meant a great deal to the organisation. As Patron, she lent not only her name, but her wholehearted belief in the importance of song, language and communication at the heart of performance. Her presence enriched the musical life of Leeds immeasurably, and her influence on the culture of song performance will continue to be felt for many years to come.
We remember her with profound gratitude and affection, and extend our condolences to her family, friends and all who had the privilege of working with and learning from her.
